DOJ files suit against Marion, Arkansas

The Justice Department has filed suit against the city of Marion, Arkansas, alleging the city subjected one of the city's part-time police officers to racial discrimination.

According to the DOJ website, whenever the city has an opening for a full-time position on its police department, the city routinely promotes the most senior part-time officer into the full-time position. However, in the case of Stacy D. Allen, an African-American and a former City part-time patrol officer, when the city of Marion had two full-time positions come available, it failed to promote Allen to one of the two positions. Allen was a senior part-time officer at the time.

Allen is currently working full-time on the West Memphis, Arkansas police department.
